Organizing Under My Kitchen Sink

The cabinet under my kitchen sink has always been a cluttered mess.  I used to clean it out and organize it about once a month.  That was before Bee was born.  Now it seems like I have less time on my hands and my kitchen sink cabinet issue doesn’t matter as much as it used to.

Not this week, though.  I couldn’t take it anymore and decided to tackle this mess!

I pulled everything out and threw all the garbage away.  Lucky for Hubby, I found out there is a tiny leak under the sink.  New job for him to tackle!  I know how much he loves projects!

Then a created a game plan.  My mom gave me a lightly used, curved shower curtain rod like this one the last time I saw her.  I had Hubby put it up in our master bathroom about a month ago.  I saved the old, ugly rod because, I mean, I’m sure I’d need it eventually!

I decided to use it under my sink!

Well, it turns out it was too long to work.  That didn’t stop me, though.  I had to find a way to cut it down.  I used one of these and I DO NOT recommend anyone else try that!  It’s a great tool, but not one you should use for this job.

Hot pieces of aluminium flew everywhere and I got burnt more than once (I was in flip flops & shorts!).

I got it down to the right size, though, and hung it in the cabinet.

Ya know that white basket under my sink in the before picture?  When I bought it over a year ago, it came in a two pack.  I found the second one just sitting on a closet shelf with one tiny item in it.  Great use of space, right?  That one item now has a new home and I used the second basket under my sink.

Here’s the finished product:

This is a game changer, people!  I love it!  I really like having my garbage bags hanging on the rod, too!

The best part of this?  It didn’t cost me a penny!  Well, I mean, I bought the baskets, but that was over a year ago.  If memory serves, they only cost me a couple bucks at Wal-Mart.

What do you think?  Are you already doing something like this?
