The Short Story
My name is Desteny Morris. I am the wife to a wonderful man and the mommy to an adorable little girl. Being a stay at home mom is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done, but it’s also the hardest. The struggle is real, ladies, and I’m not afraid to talk about it!
A History Lesson
It all started in July of 2015 when my husband and I welcomed out daughter, Bee, into the world. Prior to that week we had been living off two incomes. We decided early on in my pregnancy that once Bee was born I would become a stay at home mom.
The single income household idea wasn’t too bad at first. Sure, money was a lot tighter than it had been before and I had to gasp make a budget, but we managed. Hubby received a $3/hr raise soon after Bee’s birth which helped us tremendously!
We had saved up a bit of money prior to Bee’s arrival and decided to invest in our future and buy our own house. We were so excited to find a bigger house on a much larger lot in a very quiet location. Especially since our mortgage was only about $7 a month more than our rent had been.
Then it happened… Hubby was put on a salary and with the salary came a big pay cut. Now we are at a point where we can barely feed ourselves after paying all our bills.
I know first hand that staying at home with your little one(s) is no walk in the park. Join me as I write about the ups and downs of being a modern conservative SAH mom in today’s society. DIY on the cheap, throwing tasty meals together when your kitchen cabinets are nearly empty, struggling to stay within a budget month after month, searching for ways to help contribute to the bank account, questioning whether you should raise your child the way you believe is right or the way society expects you to… I’m right there with you, Mama, trying hard to make this staying home thing work!
