Ibotta: It’s Free Money!

I’m always trying to save money when I can.  I tried extreme couponing after Bee was born only to find out that the whole extreme couponing thing is a load of crap.

Once a month I go to Winco to stock up on food because a lot of stuff there is cheaper than anywhere else in town.

I make my own laundry detergent & carpet shampoo, I avoid buying diapers & wipes for Bee, I use hand soap refills for body wash, I’m always yelling at Hubby when he leaves a light on in an empty room.

And I use rebate apps for my phone!

I really do love my apps.  Currently I’m using Checkout 51, Wal-Mart Savings Catcher, Ibotta, and Receipt Hog.

Out of all of them, Ibotta is my favorite!

You can use your computer or your phone to unlock Ibotta rebates. However, to confirm what you have purchased and receive the actual rebates, you have to use your phone. It’s really simple and I look forward to using it every single week!

If you sign up using this link, not only will you receive an extra $10 after submitting your first rebate, but I will, too, just for referring you!

Who doesn’t like free money?!

After you’ve signed up, you find the store you plan on shopping at and browse through the rebates.

Today Wal-Mart has 444 rebates!  Beer, pork chops, corn on the cob, diapers, baby food… all items that you can get cash back for purchasing.

Once you find a rebate you are interested in, you have to unlock it.  Unlocking it is simple: click the “unlock” button and Ibotta sends you to a new screen.  This screen might show you a recipe or video. Sometimes they ask a multiple choice question.  Whatever they throw your way, complete the task and you will unlock the rebate.

After you have unlocked everything you want, go to the store!  Do your grocery shopping as usual.

When your shopping is done and you’re back home, open Ibotta on your phone.  Click on the “Verify Purchases” button.  This is where Ibotta asks you which items on your unlocked rebates list you actually purchased.  You verify your purchases by scanning the bar code using the camera on your phone.

After verifying the items, Ibotta will ask you to either scan the bar code at the bottom of your receipt or take a picture of your receipt.  Both are very simple to do.

Now you can submit your rebates.  Ibotta always says it could take up to 24 hours before the money is placed in your account, but I almost always get the money within an hour.

I’ve been using Ibotta since January.  I really wasn’t using it to it’s full potential during the first few months.  I’ve been getting better, though!  I’m almost at $60:

I’m planning to save my money for Christmas shopping.  I’ll cash it all out in November.

UPDATE 10-29-16: I have $108.95 in my Ibotta account. That’s over $50 in just 3 months and all I had to do was redeem rebates with my phone!

UPDATE 2-16-17: I’m currently $3 shy of reaching $200 in lifetime Ibotta earnings right now. This rebate app (along with a few other tricks) literally paid for my daughter’s Christmas gifts! Definitely worth giving a try.

UPDATE 10-25-17: As of today I’ve earned $384.75 with Ibotta. Since we moved in April, I have been pretty bad about using it. Last month was a good month for me, I got over $90 back just through Ibotta! If you get Ibotta, I highly recommend cashing out every time you reach $20. There have been a lot of stories going around lately of money just disappearing from people’s accounts or Ibotta saying they are misusing the app (and honestly, a lot of people are) and shutting their account down with money still in it. I haven’t had any issues, but better safe than sorry!

Another great feature that I didn’t know much about until recently is the Bonus area. You can make a little extra money by completing challenges! It’s pretty nifty!

And, like I said…

Sign up using this link and you’ll get an extra $10 after submitting your first rebate!

I tried this app before but it was rare they offered rebates for items I actually purchased. Might have to try it again, sounds like it might have updated a bit.
